Arsenal have suffered a major blow as their star centre-back, William Saliba, is expected to be out for up to a month after the injury he suffered in the top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool.
The 22-year-old was substituted out in the fourth minute of the clash at Anfield when he went down injured and was replaced by new signing Cristhian Mosquera.
The details
The French national team are currently on international duty but are without Saliba due to his injury. L’Equipe reported today that further tests have been carried out and the former Nice defender is expected to be out for an estimated four-week period.
Saliba felt his ankle before the match started, and after checking with the medical staff, he was allowed to start the game. However, he lasted only four minutes.
While his injury is unfortunate, his national team, France, are sufficiently covered in the position. Also, the signings of Mosquera and Pierro Hincapie this summer ensure that Arsenal will not suffer his absence too adversely.
Meanwhile, upon signing Hincapie, Arteta waxed lyrical, highlighting the Ecuadorian’s physical presence, versatility and tactical flexibility as his standout qualities.
