Arsenal turn attention to Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins after withdrawal from Gyokeres deal
The London club attempted to acquire the 29-year-old goalscorer towards the end of the winter transfer window with a bid of around £60 million.
The offer was swiftly rejected, and the Emirates side didn't make another attempt at the time.
Arsenal make move for Watkins
According to reports from Portugal, via Sportal, Arsenal have paused negotiations for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres.
The Gunners are reportedly unwilling to meet the Portuguese club's asking price of at least €80 million.
Another option is Benjamin Šeško, but interest from other clubs could drive his price even higher than Gyökeres'. The Sun reports that Watkins remains a backup option for Arsenal.
Last season, the English international made 38 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists.
