Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could not praise his captain enough following an inspirational performance that helped the Gunners return to winning ways.

Odegaard was on fire as the league leaders blew city rivals Chelsea away during the London derby on Tuesday night.

The Norwegian midfielder netted a brilliant brace to inspire the Gunners to an easy 3-1 win over the Blues at the Emirates.

Gabriel Jesus added a third for the home side before Noni Madueke’s first goal for Chelsea proved to be a consolation.

Arteta eulogises Odegaard

The 24-year-old Arsenal skipper continues his impressive display which has played a key role in Arsenal's rise to the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was pleased with Martin Odegaard's performance against Chelsea.

His double against the Blues saw him increase his tally to 14 goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season.

It is the most goals the former Real Madrid and Real Sociedad star has scored in a single season in his career.

His manager, Arteta was full of praise for the talented midfielder who was described as exceptional per Fotmob.

“He has 14 goals this season, his contribution to the team, his leadership skills, I’m really pleased with him,” Arteta said.

“He has been exceptional for us, his contribution every single day. I think he has done that (set the tone) on many occasions. What Martin has done this season deserves a lot of credit.”
