Asisat Oshoala shines again with stunning assist for NWSL newbies
It was a case of so near yet so far for Asisat Oshoala, as the Nigerian superstar produced a sparkling individual display for Bay FC, only for Washington to dramatically snatch all three NWSL points late on.
The reigning African Player of the Year was at her menacing best, tormenting the Washington backline from the first whistle with her blistering pace and mercurial dribbling ability in the 2-1 defeat.
Oshoala’s brilliance not enough for Bay
Oshoala drew first blood for Bay in the 11th minute, slicing open the defense with a gorgeous through ball to tee up teammate Dorian Bailey for a simple close-range finish.
The Super Falcons legend then came agonizingly close to doubling the lead, with her powerful effort from the edge of the area crashing back off the upright.
The 28-year-old was simply unplayable at times, creating four goalscoring chances and delivering three key passes over the 90 pulsating minutes.
However, Oshoala's magic wasn't enough to earn Bay all three points, as Washington struck back to level in the 23rd minute, before snatching a dramatic 2-1 victory in added time.

While the result will sting for Bay, Oshoala's latest masterclass further solidified her status as one of the most feared strikers in the NWSL.
Head coach Albertin Montoya will desperately hope her talismanic Nigerian can maintain those astronomical standards as Bay seek to launch an assault on the league in their debut season.
Oshoala has now scored one and assisted another in her first two matches for Bay Fc following the switch from Barcelona.
