Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala calls CIES's Osimhen valuation a 'joke'

Super Falcons and Barcelona Femeni forward Asisat Oshoala has found laughable the valuation of his compatriot Victor Osimhen by CIES Football Observatory.

You will recall that early Thursday morning, Pulse Sports Nigeria reported that Napoli’s superstar and icon Osimhen had been named as Africa’s most valuable footballer in the world.

The ranking came from the latest issue of the CIES Football Observatory as monitored by Pulse Sports.

According to the famous statistics outfit, the valuation of the players was based on their transfer values.

Therefore, CIES used a statistical model developed by them to rank the top 100 football players in the world based on their estimated transfer value.

Osimhen had an excellent season with Napoli, leading the side from Naples to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

He also scored 26 goals to become the first-ever African to win the best striker award in Serie A’s 125-year history.

However, despite his impressive campaign, CIES Football’s model ranked Osimhen as the 40th most valuable player in the world with a value of €77.3 million

Oshoala has now reacted to the report as posted on the Pulse Sports Nigeria Instagram account.

According to her comment on the post, the 28-year-old, who recently lifted her second UEFA Women’s Champions League title with Barcelona, believes the valuation is a joke.

“JOKE,” she posted in the comments.

Going through the comments, it’s clear the Super Falcons star is not alone.

“Rubbish Ranking, make Haaland go Napoli make we check smt,” one of the commenters posted.

“So they are saying his value didn’t go up despite having one of the best seasons in European football? Isn’t this around the price Napoli signed him for?” another quizzed.

“Them dey craze 😂😂😂 Victor Osimenh should be at least top 5 in that list . Nah see finish make them go place am for 44th and placed Haaland first,” another added.
