Bayern Munich have been in search of a new manager following the departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

The German side struggled last season losing the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen and failing to win a single trophy.

In their quest for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, the German team made the decision to sign Kompany following a string of rejections.

According to BBC, Kompany has reached an agreement to sign a contract through 2027, with Bayern expected to compensate Burnley with £10.2 million.

Kompany's assistant at Burnley, Craig Bellamy, will not go to the Allianz Arena with the Belgian; instead, his backroom staff will consist of Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers.

Prior to Tuchel’s departure, he had a discussions with Bayern earlier in May on staying with the team, but the talks broke down without a deal.

Bayern then made offers to Austrian coach Ralf Rangnick, former manager Julian Nagelsmann of Germany, and head coach of Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso but all three were declined.

Bayern was eager to name a coach who speaks German, and Kompany fits the bill because he spent two years as a player for Hamburg.

The 38-year-old's tenure at Burnley and Anderlecht has helped him establish a respectable managerial reputation.
