Boniface back amongst the goals as Bayer Leverkusen go top of Bundesliga
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was back on the score sheet in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-0 win over Cologne after previously going two matches without a goal.
Boniface returns to scoring ways
Boniface scored the third goal as Bayer Leverkusen climbed back to the top of the Bundesliga standings with a convincing victory.
The Nigerian forward had gone two matches without scoring or providing an assist for the first time in his Bundesliga career, but ensured that run stopped with an emphatic finish to round off the scoring in the 3-0 victory over Cologne.
Boniface popped up in the right place to score in the 67th minute for Bayer Leverkusen, taking his tally to seven goals in seven Bundesliga games for the league leaders.
Bayer Leverkusen mounting title challenge
In addition to Boniface’s goal, Bayer Leverkusen also saw goals from Jonas Hoffman and defender Jeremie Frimpong in their 3-0 home win.
Bayer Leverkusen remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga after seven game weeks, with six wins and one draw against Bayern Munich, leaving the underdogs at the top of the pile in the German top flight going into the international break.
Die Werkself will be hoping for an injury-free international break for stars like Boniface so that they can return to mount an improbable Bundesliga charge to become the first side apart from Bayern Munich to lift the league title for 11 years.
