Bullish Omanyala promises fireworks in final after 9.86 finish at Athletics Kenya meet

Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala obliterated a strong field of athletes in the second Athletics Kenya meet at the Nyayo National Stadium to cut the tape in a world leading time of 9.86.

Omanyala lined up against new faces in Category A of the 100m semi final and yet again proved to be unbeatable over the distance.

He has promised even better results as he lines up for the final on Saturday, February 25.

"I am hoping to run under 9.80 tomorrow. But I don't really want to promise any specific time," Omanyala said.

The Commonwealth Games 100m champion has had a great indoor season which saw him set a new national and African record of 6.54 in the 60m. During his tour, he won three out of his four races.

Omanyala started off the blocks with an astonishing kick that saw him clinch the title.

In a previous interview, Omanyala had revealed that he struggles getting off the blocks and attested that the indoor season has helped him on that front.

"We did not come here to play. The indoor tour helped me to know how to pick my speed and I'm glad it worked out well for me," he said.

The 27-year-old is also plotting big ahead of the 2023 season as he hopes to win the World Championships and lift the Diamond League gong.

He noted that his training has not changed one bit and he is happy his body is responding well.

After beating Olympic champion Marcel Jacobs, Omanyala said he is not shaken by any other athlete.

"It's just me against the time," he said.
