Watch emotional highlights of Mane’s road to recovery
Bayern Munich have released emotional clips from Sadio Mane’s three-month recovery from the injury that forced him to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Mane’s three-month injury hell
Mane was taken off in Bayern Munich’s November win over Werder Bremen with what was believed at the time to be a minor injury but ended up missing 105 days of action when the true extent of the damage was discovered.

Mane ended up requiring surgery and an extended period of recovery under strict supervision from Bayern Munich’s team of doctors and physiotherapists before he was finally able to make a return to the pitch against Union Berlin in late February.
In the tear-jerking video, we are able to follow Mane from the moment he asked to be substituted against Werder Bremen to the moment he made his return against Union Berlin.
Mane’s Bayern Munich return
Bayern Munich put out a snippet of the mini-documentary on social media, but you can see the full video here.
In the video, Mane, with the help of Bayern Munich staff, talks us through his recovery progress, from the severity of the injury and degree of swelling in his knee to post-surgery recovery, his interaction with medical staff and other injured players, the different exercises he had to undergo, and the stages of recovery that he went through before being able to kick a football again.
The video shows Mane go through a range of emotions, from sadness and realisation to acceptance, enthusiasm, and finally the “fantastic” feeling of being able to play football again after three months of doctor’s appointments, tests, and regimented training procedures.
