Bungoma Queens on Sunday secured a well-deserved spot in the highly competitive Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (FKFWPL) for the 2023-2024 season.

Their journey to the top flight was sealed after a thrilling playoff match against Uweza FC, which saw them emerge victorious with a nail-biting 6-5 win on post-match penalties at the RVIST Grounds.

The County's Governor, Ken Lusaka, had already shown his unwavering support to the team by granting them Ksh50,000 to aid in their preparations for the crucial match. 

Following their qualification, Lusaka further reaffirmed his commitment to backing Bungoma Queens as they embark on their quest for success in the upcoming season.

In an official statement, Lusaka extended his heartfelt congratulations to the resilient Bungoma-based side for their impressive performance.

“Congratulations Bungoma Queens FC on your qualifier for the Kenya Women Premier League. ( FKFWPL) 2023-2024. I promise my full support as they transit to the next stage of victory,” he said in a statement.

The Governor's pledge comes as a boost to the players and management, knowing that they have the full backing of their county's leadership behind them.

The thrilling playoff match between Queens and Uweza kept spectators on the edge of their seats as both teams displayed quality football. 

The battle ended in a one-all draw inside regular time, necessitating a nerve-wracking penalty shootout to determine the winner. 

In the end, it was Queens who held their nerve, securing a promotion ticket to the FKFWPL amidst euphoric celebrations from their loyal fans.

Queens had showcased their prowess throughout the season, finishing second in the Division One Zone B league standings, just behind the formidable Madira Soccer Assassins.
