The 24-year-old midfielder turned down the Blues' contract renewal proposal, opting for an exit.  The Red Devils are keen on landing him and are said to have agreed on personal terms, but are still in negotiations with Chelsea over a transfer fee.

What happened

As Pulse Sports reported earlier, the Red Devils sent an improved third bid worth ÂŁ55 million for Mount.

According to the Athletic's David Ornstein, the West Londoners have now rejected the offer as it is below their valuation of the player.

They sent a counter-proposal; however, it is lower than the counter-offer for the second bid, signifying that both parties are moving their positions and are close to an agreement.

The latest ask from Chelsea is ÂŁ58+7 million, in guaranteed and add-ons respectively. The Red Devils are said to want the deal resolved as quickly as possible because they do not want the player to miss pre-season.

The 33-year-old signed a two-year extension with the Blues last summer amid interest from Barcelona, and although he is on a contract until 2024, his agents are reportedly working on taking him away from Chelsea this window.
