Chukuwueze's impressive display not enough to help AC Milan as they draw against Genoa
The home team have struggled with form in their last five games in all competitions, having failed to get any wins.
Samuel Chukwueze was given a starting berth in place of Ruben Loftus Cheek who was injured in their last game against Juventus.
Milan whose form has been poor in recent weeks could only savage a 3-3 draw against Genoa at the San Siro Stadium.
As it happened
AC Milan’s manager Stefano Pioli made six changes to his side that drew to Juventus last weekend. Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze made the starting lineup.
Genoa’s manager on the other hand made two changes to their side that thrashed Cagliari 3-0 last weekend.
The game started with a lot of nervous moments from AC Milan which led to them conceding a penalty which was converted by Genoa. Mateo Retegui picked the right spot and slotted the ball into the net, giving goalkeeper Marco Sportiello no chance.
Samuel Chuwukueze helped AC Milan get back to level terms after his cross was met by Alessandro Florenzi who planted a perfect header inside the right post before the halftime break.
The second half started and Milan conceded another goal when Caleb Ekuban leapt to connect with a lovely cross and scored with a header that bounced off the ground and went inside the right post.
Milan scored shortly after in the 72nd minute when Matteo Gabbia outjumps the defence inside the six-yard box to meet the corner and scored with a thumping header into the right side of the goal.
Pioli’s men did not relent and took the lead during the closing stage of the game from another cross from Pulisic which was struck by Oliver Giroud into the net.
The home side thought Giroud’s goal had sealed the win for them but Genoa came attacking with full force and scored an equaliser in the 83rd minute after Milan defender Malick Thiaw put the ball into the back of his own net.
The draw leaves AC Milan without a win in their last six games with the season gradually coming to an end.
