Club World Cup: In-form Chelsea star reflects on debut season before decisive ES Tunis contest
Pedro Neto has reflected positively on his debut season at Chelsea.
Speaking from Philadelphia during the Club World Cup, Neto highlighted the strong bonds forming within the squad and the lessons the tournament can offer.
Neto has enjoyed a productive end to his first campaign, scoring in both of Chelsea's Club World Cup matches so far.
What Neto said
The Portuguese winger expressed satisfaction with his season, noting the welcoming environment at the club.
“It has been a really good first season,” Neto told Chelsea FC. “The people around the club, and the structure of the club, have been really helpful and really kind to me. It already feels like home.”
Crucially, Neto has played over 50 games this term, a significant achievement after recent injury-plagued seasons at Wolves.
To maintain his fitness, the former Wolves man explained he now works closely with a dedicated physio, committed to continuous improvement, aiming for consistency and striving to differentiate himself on the pitch.
“I could play more than 50 games, which I didn’t do for a long time,” he continued. “I could make some good appearances as well, although being honest I know I can do better. I was just trying to get myself into a better position of wellness, and it’s been really good.
“I had to take care of myself of more. I got a physio who is with me all the time and has been helping me a lot during the season.
“I want to continue like that, and even improving. That is my mindset. Now I am much better in that aspect, I want to improve on the pitch as well.”
What’s next for Chelsea?
Chelsea will play Esperance on Tuesday, and they need a draw to avoid exiting the Club World Cup.
Finishing second in round D could pit Enzo Maresca’s men against Bayern Munich.
