Denis Balungu torches Rezlife in comfortable KIU Titans win

Guard Denis Balungu put up a Player of the Game performance as KIU Titans defeated Rezlife 84-61 Wednesday night at YMCA, Wandegeya.

The Congolese scored a game-high 30 points on a 10-for-15 shooting spree from the field.

With the Titans struggling at the start of the game, Balungu’s offence brought them back into the game and eventually won it.

The former Power player shot eight-for-11 from downtown and two-for-four inside on the night.

Saidi Amisi and Henry Okoth were the only other KIU players to score in double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Rezlife started the game on the front foot and led 23-18 at the end of the first quarter but ran out of steam after that as Julius Lutwama’s charges engaged second gear.

The Titans took the second frame 19-09 to lead by five points (37-32) going into the halftime break.

A comprehensive performance in the second half of the game saw the Kansanga-based side take the third frame 25-16 and the fourth 22-13 to ease to victory.

Claude Aligawesa and Arnold Kisekka scored 13 and 12 points, respectively and were the only Saints players in double figures on the night.

The victory saw KIU improve to a 13-2 record and cement their second place on the log, while Rezlife dropped to 3-10 to stay bottom of the log.

In the first game of the evening, Miracle Eaglets defeated Nabisunsa 84-66.
