Egypt 2-2 Ghana: Black Stars fail Kudus in 4-goal thriller against Salah-less Pharaohs
A masterclass performance from Ghana’s star man Mohammed Kudus was not enough to secure victory against Egypt at the AFCON 2023 on Thursday.
A brace from Ghana's star man was not enough to secure victory against Egypt as the Black Stars were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations clash on Thursday.
Kudus stars, but Ghana held
Up against the Pharaohs, who lost their main man, Mohamed Salah after just 45 minutes, Ghana took a shock lead when Kudus rifled home a stunner from outside the box in first-half-added time.
However, a defensive error allowed Egypt equalise in the 69th minute to make it 1-1.
The 22-year-old West Ham star struck again, two minutes after Egypt’s leveller to restore Ghana’s lead only for Mostafa Mohamed to draw the Pharaohs level again three minutes later in dramatic style.
Despite Kudus' best efforts, the Black Stars failed to capitalise against an Egyptian side devoid of their Liverpool superstar for the second half.
The result leaves Group B wide open ahead of the final round of matches, with Egypt second on two points, one ahead of Ghana, who sit bottom of the group.
