Egypt release official statement following Salah controversial substitution against Guinea-Bissau

The Pharaohs were in action against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau in qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The 31-year-old forward was in action in both games as they sought qualifications for the World Cup in the USA. 

In the second game, Salah scored an incredible goal that salvaged a 1-1 draw but the game was later surrounded by controversy.

The situation of Salah’s substitution during the game has been addressed by the Egyptian FA in an official statement.

According to the Mirror, the official statement reads, “There is absolutely no truth to the rumours that Mohamed Salah refused to leave the pitch. 

“Salah was not going to be substituted off in the first place. Hossam Hassan was content with only bringing on Nasser Maher.”

At stoppage time, Mostafa Fathi and Nasser Maher were ready to enter, but only the latter was replaced. 

Others thought Fathi was supposed to replace Salah, but he chose to return to the bench after a possible pushback from the Liverpool star.

However, the official statement from the Egyptian FA has debunked the rumours of the controversial issue with Salah.
