The saga between Eric Abidal and Hayet Abidal appears to be nowhere near its conclusion amid reports of the couple’s divorce.
Hayet Abidal, the estranged wife of former Barcelona and France international defender Eric Abidal, has since confirmed she is seeking a divorce from her husband.
In November 2021, Hayet released a statement alleging that the former footballer had admitted to an extra-marital affair with PSG women’s footballer Kheira Hamraoui.

In the press release which was confirmed by AFP, Hayet says that her husband had admitted “to an adulterous relationship with Ms Hamraoui” with full details of her statement covered by French media outlet RMC Sport.

In that same month, amid the alleged case of infidelity, Eric Abidal was reportedly assaulted at the hands of two hooded men who pointed directly at Hayet Abidal, because Eric, her husband, had been unfaithful to the footballer, causing Hayet to initiate the proceedings of her divorce from the former Barcelona player.

Amid the divorce which continues to be processed, Hayet has once more called out her estranged husband on social media over his alleged refusal to sign the divorce papers.
Hayet took to the stories of her Instagram profile on Wednesday, June 14, to charge against the 43-year-old former France international via a series of posts.

“FYI (For your information) wanting the best for your children and having peace of mind is not degrading yourself.
It's about restoring the truth and keeping its dignity.".
In a second post, she continued:

‘Since our lawyers have failed to make you hear your point I'm doing it publicly.
‘Eric sign the divorce papers thank you, let this divorce be a page I turn so you can fully live your idyllic life with your new wife following your express marriage out of respect for me and our children."

"To want the good of your children and to have peace of mind is not to belittle yourself... It is restoring truth and maintaining dignity. The children are aware of my approach and understand me because the situation is also difficult for them.
'Don't worry too much about them, you know that I fight for them and that all this is for the simple purpose of living in peace and happiness for all. No child deserves to have a mother exhausted by psychological abuse.
'I've been fighting for more than a year not to sink into depression with all the things that are happening that you don't know. I'm sinking... And expressing myself through social media was my ultimatum in my anguish," she added.

In another post, Hayet Abidal alleges that Eric plans to take another wife, but is refusing to divorce her first.
She wrote:

Talk to your new wife I think we can both agree that this situation is unacceptable.’
Kheira Hamraoui, 31, was a Barcelona player when Eric Abidal was the club’s sporting director, having arrived in 2018.

It is during that period that Hayet Abidal alleges that her husband had an extra-marital affair.

Eric Abidal enjoyed a successful playing career which totalled 513 appearances between 2001 and 2015 with Monaco, Lille, Lyon, Barcelona and the French national team.

Abidal won a total of 20 trophies across his career with his six-season stint at the Camp Nou, winning four La Liga titles with the Catalan giants alongside the Champions League trophies in 2009 and 2011.
