Ex-Chelsea boss wants to use Arteta's Arsenal as blueprint at Bayern Munich

Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has used Arsenal’s current team to describe what he would like his current Bayern Munich team to look like, especially if they are unable to land a centre-forward in the summer transfer market. 

Bayern Munich have notably struggled for goals since Tuchel took over, averaging just over a goal a game in the nine matches the German gaffer has been in charge of so far. 

Since the loss of Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022 to Barcelona, Bayern have been unable to find consistent goalscorers in the team, and since Tuchel’s arrival, the team’s top scorers in the Bundesliga have been Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry, who have scored two goals each since Tuchel’s appointment in March. 

Recognising the need for more goal-scoring threat, Tuchel has called for an extra forward in the summer transfer window, but in the event that this is unattainable for Bayern, Tuchel has outlined a way for the team to cope with some adjustments.

Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s weekend fixture against Schalke, Tuchel has said he wants his team to play like Arsenal in the Premier League who have a good spread of goals across the entire team and can offer a goal threat through various means. 

He said, "Arsenal are an example of spreading the goals across several shoulders. If we've been together for a while and had a good preparation, we'd be able to create chances even if we don't get a world-class number 9. Our goal is to have several players with around 16 goals" 

Arsenal have seen two players this season in captain Martin Odegaard, and winger Gabriel Martinelli, who have scored 15 goals in the Premier League, while Bukayo Saka is not far behind on 13 goals, and Gabriel Jesus also reached double figures with 10 goals despite missing a large chunk of the season through injury. 

Tuchel is hoping to follow Arsenal’s example by maximising the team’s output and increasing the spread of goals in the team but might have to wait beyond the current season to fully implement his plan for Bayern Munich.
