During his third spell as Netherlands head coach, he led the team to the 2022 World Cup while undergoing 25 radiation therapy sessions, hormone injections, surgeries, and various medical procedures, all kept private until his public revelation in 2022.

Despite setbacks, including the permanent loss of sexual function, the Dutchman has expressed relief and gratitude as his condition improves. “I no longer suffer from cancer,” he said. “Two years ago, it was all bad. But it all worked out in the end.”
