Frank Onyeka: What Osimhen told me about Napoli teammate before Cameroon masterclass
Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka has revealed that national teammate Victor Osimhen gave him some words of wisdom before his impressive outing against Cameroon in the AFCON 2023.
Onyeka put on a show in midfield as the Super Eagles defeated the Indomitable Lions 2-0 in the round of 16 to qualify for the last eight at AFCON 2023.
Onyeka on Osimhen’s tips
The midfielder fondly referred to as a ‘tank’, produced a man-of-the-match-worthy performance to help Nigeria continue the journey to a fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire.
According to the 26-year-old, the African footballer of the year gave him tips about his Napoli teammate Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa before the historic clash on Monday.
“Yeah, yeah,” Onyeka said in a video posted by the Hindsight Pod after he was asked if Osimhen told him anything about the Cameroonian midfielder.
“Osimhen told me that he likes to play these short, short passes, (and) tries to connect and doesn’t play long. So, when he gets [sic] the ball, I try [sic] to close him down,” he added.
Onyeka, who has been outstanding in the middle of the park for Nigeria, won two of three attempted tacklers, made two interceptions, nine recoveries and six ground duels against the five-time champions.
The Brentford man has featured in all four matches for the Super Eagles and is expected to start when Nigeria faces Angola in the quarterfinal on Friday.
