From one centre-back to another — Rio Ferdinand crowns EPL's best defender

Rio Ferdinand, a seasoned defender, who won it all at Manchester United, has called Arsenal's French centre-back William Saliba the best in England.

Ferdinand overlooked the likes of Manchester City's Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and even Lisandro Martinez.

GOAL recently challenged the former England international to stay silent until he heard the name of the defender he deemed the best in the league.

Martinez, Harry Maguire, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven from Tottenham, and Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal were mentioned, Ferdinand only voiced his opinion when Saliba's name came up, confirming his preference.

“Yes,” Ferdinand replied when Saliba’s name was mentioned.

Saliba was part of an Arsenal side that lost the lead to Manchester City on the final day, and will be keen to win with France at EURO 2024 this summer.
