Gift Orban celebrates Nigeria's amapiano derby win with first goal for Lyon

Nigerian striker Gift Orban marked Nigeria's victory over South Africa in the "amapiano derby" at the AFCON 2023.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Orban joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate by scoring his first goal for Lyon in their 2-1 win over Lille in the French Cup.

The 21-year-old celebrated his first when he latched on to a Rayan Cherki pass to finish off a move at the moment the Super Eagles picked a ticket to reach the AFCON final. 

Orban found the net for his new French club to cap off a memorable Wednesday. 

The goal came in Orban's second start for Lyon since joining from Belgian club KAA Gent in the January transfer window. 

Following a beautiful team move, Orban was in the right place and time to react quickest to loop the Lille goalkeeper and set his new team on their way to an important victory. 

Orban's maiden Lyon strike rounds off a special day for Nigerian football after the national team prevailed over South Africa in their high-profile AFCON clash.

Nwabali proved to be the hero as the Super Eagles held off a spirited South Africa in the first semifinal match of the AFCON 2023.

Nigeria opened the scoring through William Troost-Ekong, who converted a penalty after Victor Osimhen was hacked down by the Bafana Bafana defence.

South Africa responded with a late equaliser through Teboho Mokoena before South Africa-based goalkeeper, Nwabali, saved two spot kicks against the 10-man Bafana Bafana, in the shootout to send Nigeria through.
