Eggja served as Alf-inge's best man during his wedding and was not only a close friend but also a frequent assistant to the Haalands.

He made sure Erling could concentrate on his football, which helped him adjust to life in Dortmund, Salzburg, and Manchester with ease.

The 59-year-old father of three, who passed away on Wednesday, is being mourned by the Haaland family.

Haaland loses his uncle

The Manchester City star shared a picture of himself holding the late Eggja's hand while he was in the hospital on Instagram as a way to publicly honour the man who passed away.

The heartbroken Manchester City striker posted with a caption that reads, "You are a legend, Ivar.

"Words cannot describe how much you meant to me! Words cannot describe how much you will be missed!

"I don't give a s**t! I don't give a s**! That's exactly what I'm going to do. Thank you for everything, you madman. We will see each other again. Rest in peace, Ivar."

The late Eggja is survived by his daughter Ine, who posted a social media confirmation of his loss, and his two sons, Felix and Fabian.

She wrote on her Facebook, "The superhero of our lives has been taken from us. At 3.30 p.m. we said goodbye to Dad for the last time and it feels a bit like the whole world has been put on ice. He meant so much to so many people, but to us he was everything."

Meanwhile, Haaland is reportedly set to sign a new Manchester City contract after an impressive season.

The proposed new contract from the club hierarchy will make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
