Roy Keane has cautioned England manager Gareth Southgate about using Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold during the upcoming Euro 2024.

Keane, appearing on the Stick to Football podcast, raised concerns about Alexander-Arnold's defensive limitations, warning that using him in midfield against elite opponents could prove detrimental to the team's chances.

Trent has struggled to nail a spot in Southgate's England team and is expected to start the tournament on the bench for the Three Lions.

“You can’t play him in there [midfield] against one of the top teams," he said

“In one or two of the group games, you get away with it, but if you play Trent in there against one of the top nations, defensive side of the game we are talking about, he can’t defend.

“I think Trent, against the real top teams – France or Germany, whoever it may be, in the knockout games – if you are playing Trent in there [midfield], defensively, he can’t defend!”
