He does it better than anybody else - Sha'Carri Richardson credits boyfriend Christian Coleman's vital value in her life
Sha'Carri Richardson is one of the world's most famous athletes, and she credits her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, for helping her stay grounded in her personal life and motivated in her career.
The romantic pair, both track stars, have had troubled starts to their 2025 season as they're yet to record a win or clock fast times fitting of their capabilities. Yet, they've remained rooted, supporting each other.
In their last race at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, the couple's season troubles continued with Coleman managing a sixth-place finish in the men's 100m event, as Richardson settled for an unexpected last place in the women's category.
She was outclassed by a loaded field that saw her training partner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden power to a brilliant win in an impressive 10.75s (-1.4) ahead of Olympic champion Julien Alfred in 10.77s. Ivorian legend Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith was third in a Season's Best (SB) time of 10.90s.
Richardson, who made a return to competitive racing after three months, confirmed an injury setback in February that hampered her progress in training.
In a post-race interview in Eugene, the Paris Olympic silver medallist said she had one goal in mind before the race - to finish healthy.
"The only motivation I had today was having a healthy race,” she said. “I prayed for a healthy race, and I got a healthy race, so I accept that."
While also crediting her training partner, Coleman, for pushing her to be better every day.
"He motivates me better than anybody else does, and I do the same for him."
Richardson plans to spend the next two weeks sharpening her speed endurance to be in the best shape on her return to Hayward Field in Eugene for the US Trials, and has stated she'll only focus on the 200m.
