He had incredible season - Lewandowski names Ballon d’Or winner
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has backed teammates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha to be among the leading contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or after their stellar campaigns last season.
The duo played important roles as Barcelona secured a domestic treble, combining for an astonishing 100 direct goal contributions across all competitions.
Their performances earned both players spots on the recently announced 30-man shortlist for football’s most prestigious individual award.
What Lewandoski said
Speaking to the BBC, Lewandowski hailed their impact and potential.
He said, “Lamine Yamal’s season was incredible, but in the end it all depends on the most important thing. He still has a lot of time left, if not this year, then maybe next year.”
The Polish forward also singled out Raphinha’s influence on the team’s success.
“Raphinha also had an amazing season. We have players who could be favourites to win this award,” he added.
While Lewandowski himself is no stranger to the Ballon d’Or conversation, Yamal seen as one of the brightest young stars in world football and Raphinha at the peak of his powers.
The winner of the 2025 Ballon d’Or will be announced later this year.
