He will get there - Luis Suárez gives verdict on Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres
Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez has shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s new signing Viktor Gyökeres, suggesting the Swedish striker still needs time to reach the very top level.
Arsenal secured Gyökeres from Sporting CP during the summer transfer window for a fee of €63 million ($74m), and he has already notched two goals under Mikel Arteta this season.
The 27-year-old striker joins from Sporting Lisbon, where he scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances. During his two seasons with Sporting, Viktor led the team to consecutive Primeira Liga titles and a national cup, topping the league's scoring charts both times.
He has also distinguished himself on the international stage, scoring 12 goals in his last 17 appearances for Sweden.
What Suarez said
However, speaking during a live stream (via TouchlineX), Suárez offered a cautious assessment.
The Uruguayan legend, widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation, believes Gyökeres has the qualities but must continue to adapt to Premier League demands before establishing himself as a top-tier forward.
He said, “He’s good, but I think he still lacks the level. He’ll get there in a year or two.”

Gyökeres will aim to prove his critics wrong when Arsenal face Nottingham Forest after the international break.
