He's going to score a lot of goals - Super Eagles icon Mikel Obi compares Bellingham to Chelsea legend Lampard
Borussia Dortmund’s new star, Jobe Bellingham, celebrated his first start for Borussia Dortmund with a man-of-the-match performance, scoring a crucial goal in their 4-3 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 19-year-old impressed with his sharp movement and composure, helping Dortmund maintain their lead in a thrilling contest.
Mikel Obi Compares Bellingham to Frank Lampard
Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel drew a striking comparison between Bellingham and his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard.
Speaking after the match, Mikel said, “He reminds me of a certain player I played with — Frank Lampard,” he said per a post by Fabrizio Romano.
“20-odd goals every season by being there and arriving at the right time,” the former Nigerian midfielder added.
He praised Bellingham’s directness and intelligence on the field, stressing how he looks up, passes and runs forwards.
Lampard was renowned for his ability to time his runs into the box perfectly, scoring consistently from midfield by reading the game and exploiting spaces, a trait Mikel clearly sees in Bellingham.
A Promising Goal-Scoring Future at Dortmund
Mikel expressed confidence that Bellingham will follow in Lampard’s footsteps and become a prolific scorer for Dortmund.
“I think he’s going to score a lot of goals for Dortmund,” he said. Bellingham’s goal came from a well-timed control and sharp finish, a move he has practised extensively since his youth.
The young midfielder’s ability to combine vision, movement, and finishing has already drawn comparisons not only to Lampard but also to his older brother Jude, who also made a strong start at Dortmund.
