'His goals are no longer enough' - Ex-Man Utd star explains why CR7 hasn't won anything in Saudi
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has offered his thoughts on why Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to win a major trophy with Al-Nassr, despite continuing to deliver goals at an astonishing rate in Saudi Arabia.
Since joining the Riyadh-based club in January 2023, Ronaldo has scored 101 goals in 114 appearances, proving his longevity at the highest level.
However, his goals have not translated into silverware, with Al-Nassr finishing runners-up twice and third once in the Saudi Pro League, while suffering painful penalty shootout defeats to Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli in domestic cup finals.
What Yorke said
Yorke, speaking to Jackpot City Casino, believes the problem lies in Al-Nassr’s inability to rise collectively despite Ronaldo’s brilliance.
“Cristiano Ronaldo still scores a lot of goals, but his goals are no longer enough, whereas in the past, they were sufficient to win major competitions,” Yorke explained.
He continued, “I don't think his teammates are contributing as much as he has. He has big names and good players around him, but Al-Hilal continue to dominate the Saudi League.”
Yorke added that Ronaldo’s competitive spirit will drive him to keep pushing for silverware in Saudi Arabia, particularly after signing a two-year contract extension earlier this summer.
“He’s been a serial winner everywhere he’s gone. He won’t want to leave Saudi Arabia without a major trophy. With new signings and the squad strengthening, I expect them to come very close this season," he said.
Ronaldo, now 40 years old, has already hit the ground running in the 2025/26 campaign, scoring in Al-Nassr’s 5-0 demolition of Al-Taawoun on opening day. His next chance to edge closer to a long-awaited trophy will come when Al-Nassr face Al-Kholood on September 14.
