I am not a fan - Carragher on Chelsea summer signing
Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, who is often a critic of Chelsea, surprisingly praised their recent summer signing.
Chelsea’s summer transfer window closed on Monday with no last-minute permanent arrivals, leaving Enzo Maresca with a settled squad to work with until January.
The Blues had already done most of their business earlier in the window, with preparations focused on competing strongly in the Club World Cup later this year.
However, the lack of late additions left some fans underwhelmed on deadline day.
One of the early signings, Liam Delap, opened his account for the club during their pre-season tour in the United States but suffered an injury against Fulham, potentially sidelining him for an extended period.
His absence has placed added responsibility on new arrival Joao Pedro, who joined from Brighton this summer and has already impressed at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro scored an important goal against Fulham just before half-time, helping to swing momentum in Chelsea’s favour.
What Carragher said
His display earned plaudits from former Blues star Joe Cole, while Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, often a critic of Chelsea, also praised the move.
“I think he’ll be a hit so far. I think he’s done alright so far. He looks the part in the kit, doesn’t he?” Carragher said.
Meanwhile, another headline signing, Alejandro Garnacho, was spotted in the stands during the Fulham clash before completing his transfer from Manchester United.
Carragher was notably unimpressed, criticising Garnacho’s behaviour off the pitch.
He said, “I’m not a fan of Garnacho. Miss. You know what I didn’t like? The game yesterday, when they go to them in the stands and they’re on the phone when the game’s going on. It’s not just him by the way, there’s lots of them, I can’t stand it.”
With the transfer window now shut, Maresca will rely on his summer signings, led by Pedro and Garnacho, to prove their worth and push Chelsea forward in a season where expectations remain high.
