Simeone addressed the media ahead of tomorrow's home fixture against Villarreal. The "Rojiblancos" are still searching for their first win after three La Liga rounds.

"Villarreal plays with a very distinct style. Their coach has perfected the 4-4-2 formation – a counter-attacking team with fast players... We will face a side that is an excellent example of a system we have used extensively and are very familiar with. With our own strengths, we will try to get closer to what we want," the Argentine began, as reported by Sportal.

"We had little time, like all teams, when there's an international break. We focused on analysing our mistakes and intensifying our work in those areas. We hope that tomorrow the internationals will return rested for this important match."

"Thiago Almada's injury? Footballers are athletes; these situations can happen in any national team. He is an important player who joins Baena in the infirmary, but we must deal with what happens and that's why we need a broad squad. Nico Gonzalez arrived with great enthusiasm.

"Conor Gallagher has also trained in that position and performed very well. We are starting to get to know Nico, and we can rely on either of them," Simeone continued.

"The reality is that a win would be a relief; that's how I feel. The responsibility is immense. Over these 14 years, we have built a huge legacy, and we must maintain it. I am in a position where I am the most scrutinised figure, and I take full responsibility."

"The importance of the fans in the stands will be huge, especially those behind the goal who must push us forward, as they always do, to experience spectacular afternoons and evenings.

"We have many new players, and they need to understand what this stadium represents and what the fans mean to Atletico. Tomorrow, we need the people to support the team, and we, in turn, must play a good match. It's an extremely important moment for the club that the 2027 Champions League final will be at the 'Metropolitano,' so I assume the fans are happy."
