'I convinced him to stay at PSG in 2022' - Mbappé's mother reveals

The Real Madrid star joined Madrid on a free transfer in the 2024-2025 season after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

The French international spent seven years with PSG, winning several trophies for the club before deciding to move to Spain.

"We knew where he was headed since he was 15. So, his father and I were just there, making sure he'd reach Real Madrid. He extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 because we asked him to stay.

"That was the only time we intervened. There was immense pressure on him. When they tell you that his departure would lead to staff layoffs, issues with TV rights, that there's a new training centre, the upcoming Olympic Games and the World Cup on the horizon.

"PSG was on the verge of winning the Champions League," said Fayza Lamari, as quoted by L'Equipe on Thursday, via Sportal.

Kylian Mbappé is currently in his second season with Real Madrid, having failed to secure a trophy with the 'Los Blancos' last campaign.
