'I Do Not Think It Was Very Clean'- Cordell Tinch Cautions After Stunning Grant Holloway And Co. With World Lead

Cordell Tinch may have run the fastest 110m hurdles time in the world this year, but he’s not ready to celebrate just yet despite stunning a field that included Olympic champion Grant Holloway.

After storming to a world-leading 13.06s at the Xiamen Diamond League, Tinch was quick to say he saw plenty of room for improvement.

"After winning, yes, I’m happy — but when I watch it back, I’ll probably have a bunch of critiques," Tinch said post-race.

"As of now, we’re okay with it. I don’t think it was very clean early on, but again, I’m gonna have to watch it back. Everything is such a blur when the gun goes off."

Despite dominating the field as Rachid Muratake and Junxi Liu came in second and third respectively while Olympic champion Grant Holloway faded to last, Tinch’s mind was already on what comes next.

The sprint hurdler's cautious tone stems from last year's experience after an early season surge was followed by a frustrating injury.

"Absolutely, it always makes you happy when you run fast early," he said.

"But I did the same thing last year and ended up getting hurt, so I’ve got to make sure the body stays healthy to keep building off of this."

Behind the scenes, Tinch and his team have overhauled their approach with smarter travel plans, better-timed training cycles, and a sharper focus on long-term goals.

"We’ve tweaked a lot," Tinch explained.

"Learning how everything works, making sure we go to the right meets, and that I don’t start training too early or too late."

Now, with 2025 campaign in full swing, Tinch isn’t just chasing fast times but building a foundation for something bigger.
