Mbappe, who took over the armband after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris's international retirement, has now reached 51 goals, matching the legendary Thierry Henry.

However, the former Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, and New York RB forward achieved his tally in more appearances than Mbappé (123 compared to 91).

"I want to surpass him now. It's an honor to equal a player like Thierry Henry. Everyone knows what he represents for us, the French people."

"He's someone who paved the way, who achieved enormous things. I have a lot of respect and admiration for him. Reaching such a number is crazy, but I love it. I want to keep going, I love winning more titles," Kylian Mbappé stated after the match, as reported by Abola.

"The Ukrainians never gave up, they gave their all. In the second half, there was a moment of uncertainty in our camp for 10 or 15 minutes. But I think we controlled the game.

"We managed to win the three points, the objective of getting a good start to these qualifiers," said Kylian Mbappé, France's captain.

Mbappé now only has Olivier Giroud ahead of him. The striker, who retired from the "Gallic Roosters" national team in 2024, concluded his international career, which began in 2011, with 57 goals in 137 caps.
