Veteran defender Dani Carvajal has declared himself ready to return to action under new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, stating his willingness to play in any position even "between the posts" as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 33-year-old Spain international suffered an ACL injury in October 2024 during Madrid’s La Liga clash against Villarreal, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024–25 season.

After months of rehabilitation, Carvajal rejoined full training earlier this month and is now pushing for a return to the first team in the upcoming 2025–26 campaign.

What Carvajal said

Speaking to reporters ahead of Madrid’s Club World Cup round of 16 clash against Juventus, Carvajal showed full support for Alonso’s methods and underlined his commitment to the squad.

“The coach is bringing real versatility to the team with [Aurélien] Tchouaméni’s position. And I’ll play anywhere, even in between the posts,” Carvajal said.

He continued, “I’ve played at centre-back, left-back, on the wing. I’m always ready for anything the coach asks of me. I’m available to help out in any way I can.”

With Trent Alexander-Arnold now competing for the right-back spot following his high-profile summer move from Liverpool, Carvajal knows the challenge ahead is fierce. But he insists he’s up for it.

“On a personal level, I feel great. I’m back in the group dynamics. I don’t know if I’ll be part of the squad tomorrow. I know myself, and I know that if they bring me on, I’ll give 100% out there. All out. No fear, confidence is sky high. This is all behind me now,” he added.

Carvajal’s experience and leadership could prove vital for Madrid this season, particularly with the club in a transitional phase under Alonso.

The former Liverpool and Madrid midfielder has already guided the team to an unbeaten run in the Club World Cup, securing a spot in the knockout stages.
