Interesting scenarios could open up – Transfer expert wades in on ₦89 billion Super Eagles star's future
Ademola Lookman’s name continues to swirl in transfer rumours after a stellar campaign with Atalanta, and the reigning African Footballer of the Year may not be in Bergamo much longer.
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Atalanta’s €50 million valuation of the Nigerian forward could soon trigger a bidding war, with Atletico Madrid emerging as frontrunners.
Atalanta firm on €50m price tag amid Atletico Madrid pressure
Transfer guru Matteo Moretto, speaking via Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, revealed that Atalanta are not willing to give a discount for their prized forward.
Lookman’s form has made him a hot commodity, with 15 goals and five assists in the last Serie A season, and the club is standing firm on their €50 million (roughly ₦89 billion) asking price.
“It is a significant figure,” Moretto is quoted as saying by Calcio Atalanta, adding, “It will be interesting to see who will be willing to invest this sum for the offensive winger.
According to Moretto, “Atletico Madrid is very interested and continues to carefully monitor the situation, considering that, after the Ruggeri operation, contacts between the two clubs have resumed and interesting scenarios could open up.”
Premier League return ruled out as Lookman eyes elite European adventure
Despite having once played in England for clubs like Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, Lookman reportedly not keen on returning to the Premier League.
Moretto made it clear that “the player would not like to return” to England, a stance that might limit his options but gives clubs like Atletico Madrid a huge edge.
Lookman’s priority is to remain at a competitive European level outside England, potentially making La Liga the next stage in his rising career.
