At UFC 305 in Perth, Adesanya lost by submission in the fourth round against Dricus Du Plessis, the middleweight champion from South Africa.

The tough back-and-forth battle between the two warriors was the main source of tension leading up to the fight, which was based on African ancestry.

In an effort to quiet his opponent, Adesanya showed off his signature striking early in the fight, drawing blood and forcing Du Plessis to defend himself for the majority of the opening three rounds.

Adesanya was in the lead going into the championship rounds, but his hopes of winning the title again were dashed by what he called a mistake on the ground that let Du Plessis take a rear-neck choke hold.

Adesanya on bruised ribs

Adesanya has now discussed the fight on his official Freestylebender YouTube platform.

According to Adesanya, he had to go to the hospital for X-rays after the fight against Du Plessis.

This was because there were concerns about a cracked rib only to turn out it was just bruised.

He said, "I had a bruised rib, so we went to go check the X-rays and it wasn't cracked or anything but bruised.

"The body is pretty good surprisingly for a hard-fought battle.

"I had a hard body for this fight, so able to withstand a lot of damage.

While Adesanya has been reflecting on his performance, Nigerian Nightmare Kamaru Usman also detailed why he lost to Du Plessis.
