Adesanya welcomed in Australia with dance
In Tuesday's UFC 305 "Welcome to Country" ceremony, Israel Adesanya, the former middleweight champion of the UFC, performed in a manner reminiscent of the Kali statue's dance for Prince Koura in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.
On August 17, at the UFC 305 pay-per-view, Adesanya will battle Dricus Du Plessis for the 185-pound title from the RAC Center in Perth, Western Australia. Steve Erceg and Tai Tuivasa, two local heroes, participated in today's events as well.
In Australia, an important local Aboriginal person, generally an elder, will conduct a ceremony known as "Welcome to Country" to acknowledge and approve activities occurring on their ancestral territory.

In addition, it is a custom from pre-colonial periods that is meant to be respectful and formal.
For Aboriginal peoples, this particular variation has significant cultural meaning, thus it should be carefully observed.
Adesanya took part in the celebrations and danced to honor the significance of the welcome to Australia.
He then took to social media to show off his welcome ceremony with a detailed post.
Along with the post was a message that said, "Welcome to country 🖤✨
"Paying respects to the OG’s of the land. This goes a long way.
"Thank you for the blessings, I pray it comes back to you 🪃."
Adesanya before arrival stated he intends to knock out Du Plessis when they match up.
