‘It didn’t make sense’ - Luis Enrique slams Napoli for Osimhen’s failed transfer to PSG
Earlier in the transfer window, Osimhen looked destined to go to PSG, but the transfer broke down.
It was reported that the French side offered close to $80 million for the forward, but Napoli were asking for $100 million.
The French champions got frustrated by Napoli’s demand and withdrew their interest in signing the Super Eagles star.
Enrique speaks on PSG transfer
The former Barcelona manager hinted at the difficulties PSG experienced in landing a top striker in the summer transfer window during a recent press conference.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Enrique said, “We wanted to hire some players, but their price was too high. It didn’t make sense.
“There wasn’t a real opportunity. If the market window had allowed us to take a player with 50 goals per season, we would have done it, but the reality was different.”
Although Enrique did not mention Osimhen by name, it is generally accepted that PSG had Osimhen as one of their main goals when Kylian Mbappe left for Real Madrid.
Following the failed transfer move, the Super Eagles striker has been left out of the Napoli squad for the season.
The forward will remain at Napoli till the next transfer window but will not play for the club as Conte does not see him in his plans this season.
