It's a bit late - Morocco's Sofyan Amrabat gives honest verdict on Manchester United career
Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has vowed that his impressive debut performance for Manchester United is just the start, after the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in the club's final home game of the season.
Amrabat, who joined the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina in January, was one of the standout players on the pitch, completing 40 passes with a 93% accuracy rate, while also contributing 3 clearances, 2 long passes, 1 tackle won and 1 key pass.
Amrabat on Manchester United time
Speaking after the game, the 26-year-old was modest about his display, insisting that "this is still not Sofyan on the top."
"It's my second 90 mins in four, five months," Amrabat explained per a post by Fabrizio Romano.
"I've been patient. I was always ready for the team when they need me, one minute or ten minutes."
The Moroccan international went on to say that his chance may have come a bit late in the season, but he was delighted to have finally made his mark.
"You can just work hard and wait for the chance to come,” he added. “That chance might have come a bit late in the season [laughs] but I'm happy it did."
With United's midfield an area of concern for much of the campaign, Amrabat's impressive display against the Magpies has no doubt caught the eye of manager Erik ten Hag and fans.
If the Moroccan can build on this performance, he could prove to be a valuable asset for the Red Devils as they look to finish a terrible season stronger than it started.
The Red Devils are away to Brighton and Hove Albion in the final game of the season in the Premier League before taking on city rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley days later.
