‘It’s sad when you don’t win a trophy’ – Arsenal defender Saliba expresses concern over another trophyless season

Arsenal have come close to glory under Mikel Arteta, but that ultimate trophy eludes them, with the team only securing an FA Cup in 2020 under the manager.

Speaking ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with PSV at the Emirates, Saliba spoke about the mood in the Arsenal ranks if they fail to win a trophy, while expressing belief in their ability to end this drought.

“It’s sad when you don’t win a trophy but you have to believe,"he said. 

“Tomorrow if we win or draw we are in the quarter-final where anything can happen. You have to believe in yourself. Everyone thinks we can do it,” he added.

With the current crop of young and hungry players, many believe that the Gunners have enough to get over the line while there are others that think they are still a striker away from reaching their full form.

However, with 15 points now between them and league leaders Liverpool, and the domestic cups already out of the question, the only hope for Arsenal touching a trophy this season is by winning the UEFA Champions League.

A 7-1 win away at PSV in the first leg of their round of 16 tie has left Arsenal in control and almost sure of a quarterfinal berth, but they will face either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid at that stage, which will be a tougher test.
