Iwobi displaces Super Eagles legend Kanu, sets new Premier League record after Fulham heroics

Alex Iwobi wrote his name in the history books, surpassing Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu to become the Nigerian player with the most assists in Premier League history.

The Fulham midfielder’s outstanding performance in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United cemented his legacy as one of Nigeria's finest exports to the English top flight.

In a commanding display, Alex Iwobi was pivotal in Fulham's triumph against Newcastle United, helping the Cottagers secure a 3-1 win.

Iwobi, who has started every game for Fulham this season, provided the assist for the team’s second goal.

His perfectly timed pass allowed Emile Smith Rowe to find the back of the net, despite a deflection off Newcastle's goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Iwobi’s assist for Smith Rowe’s goal meant that the former Arsenal and Everton man became the Nigerian player with the most assists in Premier League history, notching his 30th assist in the competition against Newcastle.

The Super Eagles star beat the record previously set by Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu, who recorded 29 assists during his time with Arsenal, West Brom, and Portsmouth in the Premier League.

In his career so far, Iwobi has provided 30 assists for teammates while playing for Arsenal. Everton, and now Fulham since his Premier League debut in 2015.

The Super Eagles midfielder will be hoping to continue his impressive Premier League record as he makes his name as one of the best Nigerian exports to the English top flight.
