Iwobi’s masterclass helps Fulham thrash Brentford, claiming second win of the season
Cottagers head into the clash with confidence after winning their first game of the season last weekend.
They were able to secure their second win of the season with the 3-1 demolition of Brentford and moved to 7th on the EPL table.
As it happened
Fulham boss Marco Silva named the same starting line-up which secured a 1-0 win over Leeds United in the Premier League last weekend.
Alex Iwobi started in midfield despite rumours of having an injury in their previous game, while Calvin Bassey held his spot at the back.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews made 10 changes from the side that defeated Aston Villa on penalties in the Carabao Cup during the week, with Frank Onyeka left on the bench.
As the game began, the host were hit with the first goal after a mistake from King's attempted pass to a team-mate was intercepted by Mikkel Damsgaard, who took a couple of touches before firing hard and low past Bernd Leno.
However, Fulham got back into the game with Iwobi smashing home a loose ball that fell into the box. The Super Eagles star also went on to provide a delightful pass for Harry Wilson, who put in a first-time ball past Caoimhín Kelleher before half time.
Entering the second half, the home team extended their lead to end every hope of a comeback for Brentford, with Ethan Pinnock's own goal giving Fulham a two-goal lead.
The host controlled the remainder of the game, making sure the visitors did not get another goal until the full-time whistle was blown.
