Jinja North carrying Cup lessons to the Big League
Jinja North put up a solid performance against Vipers but was unlucky at the end as they bowed out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on penalties.
Former Vipers midfielder David Bagoole, Paul Kibande and Andrew Maloba had several attempts but were either denied by Fabian Mutombora or by their lack of precision.
Their assistant coach Fred Lumu admits that the team was interested to push further in the cup but their main focus remains promotion to the top flight.
To achieve that, the team must pick themselves up from the 7-6 penalty loss and address their striking problem.
“We’re playing well and tried to match Vipers but luck wasn’t on our side,” Lumu said.
“Our main focus is the league but we wanted to push in the cup to gain more game time. We have picked some good lessons from the stronger sides.
“Most importantly, we need to improve on our scoring. We need more goals to achieve our dream,” he adds.
Apart from Bagoole, Jinja North has also acquired the experiences of former Busoga United captain Derrick Basoga, Umar Kyeyune (Gaddafi) and ex-BUL players Paul Kibande and Aziz Kemba. Lumu hopes the quintet will turn their fortunes and land them among the three green slots at the end of this Big League season. They travel to Mbarar City on Sunday to resume league duties.
Jinja North sits 10th on the table with 20 points, eleven behind the leading pack.
