Angola kept their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive as they came from behind to beat Zambia 2-1 in an African Nations Championship Group A clash at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday afternoon.
Angola started on a bright note as Anderson Cruz had a chance to give them the lead within five minutes, finding space in the box, but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Francis Mwansa.
Pedro Nanjeua’s pace troubled the Zambian defence early on, and Bernabe Tomas had two quick opportunities after 25 minutes, but he blazed both efforts over the bar.

The Palancas Negras upped their tempo after that, with Devil Miguel Vieira trying his luck from range on 35 minutes after a clever set-piece routine, but Mwansa was equal to it with a solid save.
Zambia had a rare chance on the counter just before the break through Evans Kangwa, but his final touch let him down. Angola continued to dominate possession, but they could not turn their pressure into goals, and the sides went into halftime still deadlocked.
Zambia enjoyed more of the ball in the early stages of the second half, with Kelvin Kampamba carving out some space before forcing Adilson Da Cruz Cipriano into a save eight minutes after the restart.
The Chipolopolo made a double change after 65 minutes, as Rally Bwalya came on for Charles Zulu on the right flank, while Willard Mwanza replaced Kelvin Kapumbu in midfield.
Zambia eventually went ahead in the 73rd minute courtesy of a beautiful finish from Dominic Chanda, capitalizing on a well-taken free kick that left the Angolan defence flat-footed.
However, the lead was short-lived as Kaporal levelled matters in the 79th minute with a composed finish inside the box. Angola snatched the winner in the 89th minute when Kaporal, the second-half substitute, struck again to complete his brace and seal all three points for the Palancas Negras.
