Facing stars like Sadio Mane and Nicolas Jackson, the Kenyan side hopes to draw inspiration from the challenge while also chasing the bragging rights that come with beating a continental powerhouse.

With Senegal reeling from a heavy 2-0 defeat to Brazil, Harambee Stars aim to exploit that vulnerability, though they remain aware that the Lions of Teranga will be equally determined to redeem themselves.

Kenya vs Senegal: Duke Abuya on Mindset Ahead of Harambee Stars Test

Duke Abuya explained that Harambee Stars view every match as an opportunity to strengthen their squad and improve cohesion, despite recent setbacks.

He reflected on their opening game, a 1-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea, noting that the team had moments where they could have turned the result in their favour, but failed to capitalise on key opportunities.

Looking forward to the upcoming encounter with Senegal, the Yanga SC midfielder emphasised that the focus is on making the most of the chances the team is creating and ensuring that even a single successful opportunity could make a meaningful difference in the outcome.

He highlighted that the squad is determined to build momentum and gain confidence from each match, treating these fixtures as crucial steps in their preparation and development.

“We have another match ahead of us…It’s a friendly match, but to us, it is helping us rebuild our team. We want to capitalise on the chances we create,” Duke Abuya told FKF Media.

“Looking at the previous game, we could have scored even one goal and given how they scored, we could have emerged as victors.

“But now, we are focusing on the game against Senegal, and I hope that whatever chance we create, because we are creating chances, we shall utilise even just one.”

Duke Abuya acknowledged that facing Senegal would be a formidable challenge, given their status as one of the continent’s top teams.

He described Harambee Stars’ position as underdogs but expressed excitement about competing alongside world-class players such as Sadio Mane.

He added that sharing the field with athletes of that calibre boosts the team’s confidence and reinforces their belief that they can measure up at the highest level of African football.

The midfielder also stressed that the encounter presents a valuable opportunity for growth and learning, as the squad aims to test themselves against some of the best talent in the region.

“Senegal are like the African champions, so it will be a tight game. We are going there as underdogs, and it’s a great feeling to share the same pitch with the likes of Sadio Mane. It gives us the confidence that we can also compete at the highest possible level,” he added.

Harambee Stars will face Senegal at the Mardan Stadium in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
