Kipruto and Chepng’eno Reign Supreme at Eldoret City Marathon

The 6th Eldoret City Marathon saw Edwin Kipruto and Viola Chepng’eno crowned champions on Sunday, April 27.

In the men's race, Kipruto decimated the field, fending off early competition from Geoffrey Chirchir and Timothy Kipchumba.

Kipruto took the pair out of the game early on with tactical acumen, making it him vs the clock.

Kipruto made his move early around the 15km mark, deciding to up the pace and separate himself from Chirchir, Kipchumba, and the rest of the chasing pack.

He eventually clocked 2:11:21 as Chirchir finished second in 2:11:56, while Kipchumba secured third in 2:12:08.

The women's race saw a much more fierce contest. Viola Chepng’eno had to fend off competition from Sheil Jebichi.

The pair stayed close to one another, taking turns at the helm as Gladys Koech played catch-up.

However, Chepng’eno's late surge ensured her victory as she clocked 2:26:22, with Jebichi settling for second, clocking 2:26:54.

Gladys Koech clocked 2:29:55 to finish third.

Meanwhile the day saw victories for Kenya all-around as Amos Kipruto led a Kenyan sweep in Hamburg, claiming victory at the 2025 Haspa Hamburg Marathon in Germany.

Kenyans dominated as Kipruto clocked 2:03:46 to lead a Kenyan podium sweep, with Philemon Kiplimo coming second at 2:04:01 and Erick Sang closing out the top three with 2:04:30.
