Kitara FC Fume at FUFA’s Decision to Select ‘Hostile’ Venue for Uganda Cup Final

Kitara Football Club has formally lodged a complaint with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) regarding the selection of FUFA Stadium Kadiba as the venue for the upcoming 52nd Stanbic Uganda Cup final against SC Villa.

In an official letter, Kitara FC urged the governing body to reconsider the location, citing concerns over fairness and the integrity of the competition. The club argues that since FUFA Stadium Kadiba is the current home ground for their opponents, SC Villa, it provides them with an unfair advantage.

“Kitara FC respectfully writes to request FUFA to reconsider the designated venue for the Final in the interest of fairness, neutrality, and sporting integrity,” stated the letter, signed by club CEO Joshua Atugonza.

“We are concerned that FUFA Stadium, Kadiba is currently the home ground of SC Villa, which gives our opponents an inherent sporting advantage in terms of familiarity, supporter access, and match environment.”

The club, nicknamed "The Royals," pointed out that the timing of the announcement has created a perception of bias. The venue was confirmed on Thursday, May 21, 2026, after both finalists were already known.

“It would have been understandable if the Final venue had been declared at the beginning of the competition before the participating finalists were known,” the letter continued. “However, announcing Kadiba as the venue at the final stage of the competition when SC Villa has already qualified creates a perception of unfairness and undermines the principle of neutrality expected in a major cup final.”

Kitara FC concluded its appeal by requesting a neutral ground to ensure a level playing field for both teams and to uphold the credibility of the tournament.

“As finalists who have equally earned the right to compete for the trophy, we humbly appeal to FUFA to designate a neutral venue that guarantees equal sporting conditions for both clubs,” the statement concluded.

At the time of reporting, FUFA had not yet issued a formal response to Kitara FC's petition.
