Kumaga Suur's goal helps Lobi Stars humble Abia Warriors in Umuahia
Home boy Kumaga Suur was the hero as Lobi Stars shocked Group B leaders Abia Warriors in Umuahia.
The Stars came, saw and defeated the Ochendo Babes 1-0 in a week three encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.
Local boy, Suur, was the hero of the day after he scored the decisive goal ten minutes into the second half to give Lobi the win.
Lobi seal first away win
After a shaky start to the 2023 campaign, the Pride of Benue seem to have found their way after the latest win.
Lobo’s narrow win over Warriors was their second consecutive win but the first away from home this season in the abridged league.
After a cagey opening 45 minutes, it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Suur latched on to a lovely pass from Atule Joseph to put the Stars ahead.
They will hold on to the lead to take the win, their second of the season, and three points back to Benue .
Lobi go joint top
In terms of what the result means on the table, Abia Warriors remain at the top after three matches thanks to their superior goal difference despite the defeat.
However, Lobi Stars have now closed the gap between them as they have moved up to six points, the same as the Warriors.
But Lobi are currently third on the log behind Warriors and second-placed Niger Tornadoes, who take on Rivers United on Tuesday.
