While speaking on FUFA FM’s Tuteegera Mupiira program on Thursday evening, Magogo explained that foreign coaches have demand due to technical advantage over local coaches.

“Today, a number of our StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs are recruiting foreigners,” Magogo said.

“This is a reality check to us to examine our coaches and establish what exactly needs to be done to build capacity,” he said.

Magogo insinuated that the acquisitions of foreign coaches by top clubs vindicated FUFA’s appointment of foreign coaches as national team head coach in recent years.

“This debate is beyond Micho [national team’s Serbian head coach]. I’m not even defending him here but we are looking at the entire player quality output of our systems. We have to appreciate that our challenges are more than Micho.”

Magogo added: “In Uganda, there is a crop of people who have had a school of thought that the national team should be given to a local coach, which is not bad.”

Magogo’s statements follow the recent acquisitions of foreign coaches by Uganda’s historic football clubs; KCCA FC and Villa.
